An employee of a commercial building in the heart of downtown Los Angeles was diagnosed with tuberculosis. She worked on the sixth and seventh floors of the 11-floor commercial building, and she also frequented the gymnasium located on the 11th floor.
The bacteria that cause tuberculosis are spread from one person to another through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes. The building’s tenants raised concerns of potential exposure through surface contamination.
The owner took immediate action and hired ATI to terminally clean all high-touch and hard surfaces on most floors, including offices, cubicles, common areas, restrooms, elevators, the lobby and the gym.
ATI was contacted on a Friday, and crews of 55 technicians were assembled and deployed early Saturday morning. Working multiple shifts, the crews worked over the weekend to terminally clean all critical area surfaces with an EPA-approved disinfectant. The project was extremely labor intensive as everything had to be hand wiped and vacuumed. ATI completed the decontamination, and the area resumed operations by Monday morning.
