Demolition is the wrecking and/or removal of a building’s entire structure or parts and certain materials. Demolition services can be used to completely level an entire building or to remove only parts of its interior or exterior.
Dismantling is the precise process of removing materials with the intention of keeping them intact, to be used again. Demolition is focused on the quick removal of a building or areas of a building without the intent of material re-use.
This depends on the level of wrecking required. For complete demolition, explosives, cranes, and potentially other machines may be used. Excavation is sometimes required for basements or swimming pool removal, and excavators are required.
The Clean Air Act states that the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulations must be followed during any commercial building demolition or renovation. These regulations require that the owner/operator of the building notify the State before any demolition (or renovation) of buildings that could possibly contain a certain amount of asbestos takes place. Certain operations are prohibited from releasing visible emissions into the air and are required to follow proper air cleaning and hazardous waste removal procedures. Asbestos abatement, asbestos removal are all highly regulated processes requiring certified technicians. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations are also strictly enforced on demolition sites.
