By Bucky Buchanan, Vice President, Construction
ATI is involved in a wide range of construction projects, from small-scale repairs to large, high-end commercial projects. But the most common commercial reconstruction projects that we handle are in response to water and fire damage.
Throughout my five decades in the industry, the biggest restoration project I managed involved a high-end resort hotel in Santa Barbara, California, after a mudslide that resulted from a hillside fire. One challenge we faced was getting to the hotel: mud covered Highway 101. Our crews, trucks, and equipment had to travel to the worksite by boat. Despite these difficulties, we prepared the hotel to reopen within six months and finished the reconstruction within a year.
One reason for our success on this project and many others is our commitment to communication. Every reconstruction project involves a variety of stakeholders who must be kept in the loop, from insurance companies and adjusters to engineers, city officials, property managers, and owners. I’ve found the key to communication is consistent updates, even when no active restoration work is happening. Clients appreciate knowing ATI is always available, not just during a disaster but as a trusted partner year-round.
A Guide to Reconstruction, From Assessing Damage to Rebuilding 2025
When pipes burst in the wake of Winter Storm Elliott, it caused catastrophic water damage at Trailpoint at Woodlands, a multifamily residential complex near Houston, Texas. ATI was asked to provide emergency remediation services immediately after the storm. The extensive damage required water extraction, mold remediation, selective demolition, and detailed cleaning, followed by reconstruction.
Our 100-person team worked in 10 to 12 hour shifts to restore 117 apartment units. We delivered this million-dollar restoration project on time and within budget.
ATI is proud to announce leadership changes that will help enhance service delivery across all client segments.
