Two days of major rainstorms caused flooding and mudslides, severely impacting this manufacturer of building materials. The interiors of four buildings and over three acres of outdoor space were damaged by nearly four feet of mud and water contaminated with silt, oil and sewage. Major manufacturing and electrical equipment, raw stock and finish inventory were also damaged forcing the company to shut down 90 percent of its production.
ATI was hired to train and supervise Colombit’s plant personnel for emergency services and cleanup of the interior structures, exterior spaces and machinery. Specifically, they removed debris. Cleaned and disinfected the mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, ovens, storage areas, patios, river bends, driveways, warehouse floors, pools and walls. In addition, ATI performed equipment restoration including corrosion control.
This job presented some unique challenges for the ATI team. Because of the location and distance from our U.S. facilities, a majority of the cleaning materials and supplies were secured in Colombia. Thanks to our team’s fluency in Spanish and familiarity with the culture and customs of the country, this task was achieved without delaying the project timeline. Our team’s knowledge of the country’s language and customs also enhanced our ability to train Colombit’s plant personnel on appropriate work processes and protocols in order to complete all tasks required for this project. Thanks to excellent training and communications skills, sufficient manpower and technical expertise, ATI helped bring this major manufacturer back into full production just 10 weeks after disaster struck.
