Insights From the Front Lines

When a tornado strikes, the damage is immediate — but recovery can be complex. From shutting off gas and water to assessing facilities and shoring up damaged structures, the first steps are all about safety. Only then can restoration begin.
In our experience, the biggest mistake people make is assuming a tornado won’t happen to them. But when it does, it’s too late to plan. Having a preparedness strategy and a trusted restoration partner in place means you’re not scrambling when the roof is gone.
Property owners also often underestimate the recovery timeline and insurance process. It’s not just fixing drywall — it may require asbestos testing, permits, and code compliance. The red tape can be frustrating, which is why it helps to work with someone who understands both restoration and insurance.
Before tornado season, we recommend that every facility manager create a preparedness plan, including shelter zones and communication procedures. We also suggest annual check-ins with your restoration provider — so when disaster strikes, you’re first in line. Preparedness gives you breathing room. If you’ve planned for the worst, you can keep your business running while recovery is underway.
